Covid reward funds for operators are released

Funding for healthcare workers Sanitaservice who worked during the health emergency were finally unlocked. These funds, defined in the agreement signed between the Region and the trade unions May 28, 2020include an additional amount of five million euros, intended as compensation for extraordinary hardship for other medical and non-medical healthcare workers, who are not employees of the Regional Health Service, and who worked during the critical period between 15 March and on May 15, in the midst of the pandemic.

These funds were directed to specialist doctors and Sanitaservice employeesto the operators of the local emergency system, to the doctors affiliated with the 118 service and to the staff of the associations that manage the 118 stations.

Only on October 28, 2021, the Puglia Region launched an investigation at healthcare companies regarding the employees of the associations managing the 118 stations, involved in the fight against the Covid emergency in that period.

A year later, on 11 October 2022, to better identify potential beneficiaries, a note was sent asking the general managements of the companies involved to provide data relating to the specialists involved in the emergency, the Sanitaservice staff, the doctors affiliated with the 118 and the staff of the associations that manage the 118 stations. This data had to be compiled in an Excel table with details on the staff, the shifts carried out during the critical period, the unit amounts and any amounts already paid.

On December 13, 2023, the Department for the Promotion of Animal Health and Welfare of the Puglia Region assigned the sum of 843 thousand euros to the Foggia Local Health Authority, excluding what has already been paid to doctors affiliated with the 118 service.

On 2 May this year, the sole director of Sanitaservice requested the transfer of the assigned sums. The general director, Antonio Nigri, authorized the liquidation of 612,448.00 euros in favor of the in-house providing company, without the need for further administrative documents and subject to the acquisition of a debt note for the same amount. This is because the Region has not yet credited the sum to the Foggia Local Health Authority, thus guaranteeing the payment of the skills to the eligible staff.
