Covid, the professors who passed the supplementary competition attack Valditara: “Only promises from him, we risk our jobs”

There are tenured teachers who await the end of school with apprehension: these are the teachers at risk of dismissal because they took the competition test on a supplementary date, set because the Covid emergency had prevented them from participating. The Council of State, at the end of January, established that it was not legitimate to set a further competition date due to “mere individual impediments” as Covid has been defined. Thus the minister Giuseppe Valditara had released a statement, dated 8 February, with which he committed to resolving the situation. Last March 6, the teachers who founded a committee of people in the same situation went to Rome for a meeting on the subject: on March 21, undersecretary Paola Frassinetti responded to question time by reconfirming «the government’s intention to intervene in the first measure useful”. But so far there is no trace of this measure. “The first useful legislative provision would have been the Cohesion Decree – say the teachers – but there is no sign of the promised resolution of the position of the unjustly dismissed teachers”. There is a month left until school ends, but the teachers involved in a situation they define as “Kafkaesque” don’t know if they will be able to see the pupils they will say goodbye to before the holidays in September. “At the moment there are only press releases and handshakes – they say – but the rule to preserve the condition of these teachers, who won a regular competition, does not exist to date.”
