Car incentives cut by the Meloni government, automotive fund loses 400 million

The Meloni government has once again cut incentives on cars, moving 400 million from the automotive fund to other executive projects. This is the fund that was established by the then Prime Minister Mario Draghi and from which, over the course of recent and future years, the resources had been drawn to help Italians purchase new cars to modernize the car fleet present in the Village. A clear cut, in favor of other law decrees, which would effectively close the doors to the measure for the automotive sector starting from the next few months.

Car incentives cut by 400 million

The cut implemented by the government chaired by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni was highlighted The Republic. In fact, the newspaper, analyzing the new “cohesion” law decree, noticed the passage of money from one fund to another. In short, as often happens quietly, the executive has decided to draw from a rich “cash fund” to finance other projects.

This is the case of the cohesion decree we told you about, which pocketed as much as 400 million from the automotive one. Specifically, these are financial coverages of 130 million drawn from the funds allocated for 2024 by the old Prime Ministerial Decree, the one that already regulated the subsidies now in force only for electric and plug-in hybrids.

A further 250 million would have been taken directly from the automotive fund which would have been used from 2025 onwards, while the remaining 20 would have been cut from the old column bonus, the one to support the purchase of charging infrastructure for domestic use allocated for 2022 and 2023.

Unused funds

It should be underlined, however, that it is not a question of less funds, but of a cash fund that could have allowed the government to increase incentives in the coming years because the resources available would have been there. In fact, it would be extra millions, because they had not been used or had not been successful for the Italians.

They could certainly be reused, such as that for the purchase of charging infrastructure for domestic use which had not had much success and which could be transformed into aid to encourage the installation of wall boxes or columns in garages or in the common areas of condominiums .

The wait for the new ecobonus

And in the meantime, between cuts here and there, Italians are impatiently awaiting the new 2024 ecobonus. The Minister of Business and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso has asked for calm and patience, with the measure which could be ready as early as the next few weeks.

New aid, revolutionized by Mimit which in the new 2024 version has decided on an allocation of over 950 million euros, approximately a quarter of which will be allocated (240 million) to the purchase or leasing of cars with emissions of up to 20 grams of CO2 per kilometer, while for plug-in hybrids, with CO2/km ranging from 21 to 60 grams, 140 million are expected. More than 40% (402 million) is reserved for those who want to buy a combustion engine or full hybrid vehicle, with an impact of 61-135 grams CO2/km.

The plan developed by the government for 2024 provides for an increase in the amount of 25% for individual members of a family unit with an ISEE of less than 30,000 euros, up to a maximum of 13,500 euros for electric cars.
