Car registrations, the ranking of the ten best-selling models

Archived a negative month of March, the The car market in Italy is booming again in April, thanks also two extra working days which were skilfully used. Full hybrid and petrol are good

Among fuel types, the petrol engine grew in volume in April and gained 2.4 points of share, reaching 31.6% of the total, 31.1% cumulatively (+3.5 pp). Another tumble for diesel which drops to 14.4% share in the month (-5.4 pp) and to 15.0% in the 4 months (-4.6 pp). LPG recorded a better performance than the overall market and closed April at 8.5% (+0.2 pp) and the 4 months at 9.1% (+0.1 pp), methane represents 0.2% of the market both in the month and cumulatively, and is practically irrelevant.

Hybrid cars earn 5 points in April and reach a 39.7% share, 38.6% cumulatively (+3.1 pp), with 10.7% for “full” hybrids and 29.0% for “mild” hybrids. The BEV cars lose 0.8 points in April and stop at 2.3% share (2.8% in January-April), PHEVs retreat by 1.5 points compared to a year ago, at 3.3% (3.2% cumulatively), however 1 point above the BEVs, representing an Italian anomaly.

The President of UNRAE Michele Crisci This is how he comments on the April data: “A strengthened macroeconomic framework and a better-than-expected first quarter for car registrations lead to the estimate for the market being revised upwards by 30,000 units in 2024, with a total volume expected at the end of the year of 1,630,000 cars, up by approximately 63,500 units in 2023 (+4.1%). However, the comparison with the pre-pandemic period still records a distance of 15.0% compared to 2019”.

The evergreen also makes it into the top 5 Citroen C3in the old format, and equally appreciated Toyota Yariswhich beats the “sister” Yaris Cross.
