Farewell to Fabio Gallia, banker and pillar of Italian finance

The years in BNL

The opportunity to lead a large Italian bank came in 2008, when he became CEO of BNL, which had now passed to the French group BNP Paribas. Gallia settled in well in Rome and, while remaining a finance technician, he refined his networking skills by frequenting the “Roman salons” in those years, where finance intersected with the world of politics and large state-owned companies.

At the top of CDP

In 2015 Gallia made the big professional leap when the Government appointed him CEO of CDP, forming the top ticket with the president Claudio Costamagna . These were years in which CDP increased its portfolio of “sensitive” shareholdings, starting from its entry into the capital of Tim in an anti-Vivendi key. At the end of the three-year mandate, Gallia was not reconfirmed.

Those who know him well know that he would have liked to return to the banking world. Surprisingly, however, in 2020 he began what would be his last managerial experience, becoming general director of Fincantieri for two years. After leaving the position in 2022, he currently served as senior advisor to Centerview Partners.
