I’m going Ligurian. She was delivered this morningat the Alstom factory in Vado Ligure, the first Traxx locomotive Universal™ DC with last mile functionality.

The locomotive being delivered to the Logistics Hub via Mercitalia Rail is part of the 20 optional locomotives which will be added to the 40 already in commercial service as part of the contract signed in December 2017.

During the event the FS Group Logistics Center announced the award to Alstom of the tender worth over 323 million euros for the supply of 70 new locomotives (both with Ultimo Miglio and electric only) with relative maintenance service for 12 years, with the option for further purchase up to a maximum of 30.

Present were the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Edoardo Rixi, the General Director of Alstom Italia and President and CEO of Alstom Railway Michele Viale, the CEO and General Manager of Mercitalia Logistics Sabrina De Filippis, the CEO and General Manager of Mercitalia Rail Silvio Damagini, the director of Unione Industriali Savona Alessandro Berta, the regional councilor for infrastructure Giacomo Giampedrone.

Alstom Railway Administrator Michele Viale: “We are very proud to present this locomotive designed by Alstom for freight transport for ensure greater safety and sustainability. It also guarantees a new last mile solution which allows it to be used in short stretches within ports or industrial areas. It is the symbol of the excellence of the railway world and of Made in Italy. Over the last 20 years, over 2700 Traxx locomotives have been sold in Europe alone, of which over 250 in Italy. All Traxx Universal DC locomotives for the Italian market are produced at the Alstom headquarters in Vado Ligurean excellent site that has been dealing with all phases of vehicle design and production for over a hundred years thanks to the know-how of over 300 people”.

The general director of Mercitalia Logistics Sabrina De Filippis announced: “It is the beginning of a series of investments of the logistics hub. We have a plan of over 3 billion with the aim of achieving integration between iron and rubber and iron and ships. Precisely in these hours we have formalized the award to Alstom for a further 70 locomotives. A further step forward in
renewal of our fleet of locomotives and wagons to make rail transport increasingly sustainable and efficient”.

The CEO of Mercitalia Rail Silvio Damagini: “This marks a very important stage for development of the industrial plan”.

Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi comments: “The plant will have full production capacity satisfied in the coming years. And we await the announcement for the new shed. In the last five six years we have discovered that we live on the industrial system thanks to its ability to innovate. We must be able to innovate and have a vision of the future, which is why we must finish public works.”

Councilor Giampedrone highlighted the collaboration between entities: “The region’s port system is growing more and more also by exploiting iron which is very important for the intermodality of ports and new machines that can increase productivity and reduce transport times of goods goods, a fundamental issue for the competitiveness of our country”.
