“The House of the Book” was inaugurated in Realmonte in the presence of the mayor Sabrina Lattuca, the prefect of Agrigento Filippo Romano, the territorial civil and military authorities, the mayor of Agrigento, Franco Miccichè, the students of the Ic Garibaldi of Realmonte and of many citizens. A library that will make the volumes available free of charge to anyone interested. The structure is located in the central Piazza Umberto I. The “House of the Book” presided over by the writer Pascal Schembri is made available by the association. The initiative of great cultural and social importance also gave rise to an agreement stipulated by the mayor Sabrina Lattuca and the president Pascal Schembri. After the blessing of the premises by Don Angelo Chillura, with Don Fabio Maiorana also present, the ribbon was cut and a plaque was uncovered inside the Casa del Libro, dedicated to Felice Vaccaro, who passed away prematurely and was already president. of the City Council who has always supported, with personal commitment, the creation of the precious cultural point for the Realmont community and for the tourists arriving in the City of Scala dei Turchi. The collaboration between the association and the municipal administration will continue during the summer period with the award ceremony of the “Scala dei Turchi” literary prize which will take place on August 31st in one of the magnificent settings of the municipality of Realmonte for the categories: narrative , non-fiction, poetry and history. And again, two certificates will be delivered in memory of people who have worked to promote tourism in the Agrigento area”.

“Honored to inaugurate Pascal Schembri’s House of Books as well as the third edition of the literary prize “Scala dei Turchi – Dina Russello” – declared the mayor – which saw, as every year, wide participation from illustrious personalities and the world of culture as well as the highest provincial authorities, including His Excellency the Roman Prefect and the Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri, Col. Nicola De Tullio, with a large participation of school groups from the area. Culture is increasingly an attraction that manages to involve tourists and citizens in a process of valorising the historical, artistic and landscape heritage of Realmonte. The presence of the students of IC Garibaldi added value to the day and to the purposes that the cultural center will offer. I hope that students will take the opportunity of this event to reflect on the importance of reading, books and personal relationships, sometimes mistakenly outclassed by digital ones. These remain precious tools for a successful training path. Furthermore, the City Council approved the stipulation of an agreement with the Casa del Libro Pascal Schembri, for the activation of a tourist info point, at zero cost for the Institution, which will allow it to have a Tourist Information and Reception Office in the Square Umberto I, in addition to the front office information service for tourists and interaction with local tourist operators, a welcome service with specific indications for guided tours of the coastal areas. I thank Pascal Schembri and the immense love he shows for his country. With his association – concludes the mayor – in addition to guaranteeing a cultural service, he has granted the premises, at no cost, for the tourist promotion in Piazza Carricacina”.
