Cagliari, 13 May 2023 – The 36th edition of the Turin International Book Fair ended today in Turin, after five very intense days, which saw the Sardinia Region host numerous book presentations, meetings, workshops for children, technical tables organized with teachers, cultural promoters, booksellers and publishers. Today was characterized by the memory of the figure of the intellectual Maria Giacobbe entrusted to the prof. Duilio Caocci, professor of Italian literature and Sardinian literature and regional literatures at the faculty of humanistic studies of the University of Cagliari and president of the local section of Dante Alighieri.
Born in Nuoro in 1928 and moved to Denmark at the age of thirty, Maria Giacobbe was a “monumental, highly intelligent” essayist, critic, narrator and poet, Caocci recalled, highlighting her attention to freedom, expressed in many forms, from the political and intellectual, to the gender one in the last work of 2011, starting from the dramatic context in which he found himself living his formative years, in a Sardinia oppressed by fascism which persecuted his family.
Duilio Caocci’s was a structured invitation to rediscover Giacobbe’s work, also composed of important pages of Deleddian studies, starting with the “Diary of a Teacher” in Sardinia in the mid-1950s, between Oliena, Fonni, Bortigali, Orgosolo, and “lost villages along the coast, villages clinging to the slopes of the mountains”, in the darkness of an immobile Destiny that appears without redemption.
