This morning the first event promoted by the Mont’e Prama Foundation

The celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Giants were the theme of the first conference of the Mont’e Prama Foundation at the Turin International Book Fair. An occasion that brought together the institutional leaders of Culture in Sardinia this morning, in the name of the treasures of Sinis.

The protagonists were Ilaria Portas, regional councilor for culture, Elena Boldetti of the regional secretariat of the Ministry of Culture and Giorgio Murru, director of the scientific and educational area of ​​the Foundation. The event, moderated by Jimmy Spiga, opened with the voices of Su Cuncordu and su Rosariu by Santu Lussurgiu.

In his opening speech, President Anthony Muroni recalled the Foundation’s commitment to promoting and enhancing the Sinis natural archaeological park. “We are at the Book Fair for the third consecutive year,” said Muroni, “but this is a special year for us, the fiftieth anniversary of this extraordinary discovery. Even at the Salone, as we have done in other places, most recently Pompeii, we try to bring together the different souls of Sardinian culture to promote our region, its culture and its identity”.

Councilor Ilaria Portas underlined the role of cultural heritage and archeology in the regional system. “The Giants are a symbol of the promotion of Sardinian culture and archeology which can be told and spread throughout the world”, commented councilor Portas, who then highlighted the importance of festivals as a cultural lung also in smallest realities on the island. “We must not forget that Sardinia is also made up of many small municipalities where there is a lot of excitement and which deserve support”.

In her speech, MiC regional secretary Boldetti recalled the MiC’s latest interventions involving the Giants and the museum that hosts them. “The restoration laboratory has been created, visitors can now admire the extraordinary work of the restorers,” she declared. Boldetti then focused on the importance of synergy between the different institutions: “Together with the Region we do team work to guarantee support for the culture and cultural heritage of Sardinia”.

Special attention will also be paid to the new exhibition of the Giants at the “Giovanni Marongiu” Museum in Cabras. “For the first time,” commented Murru, “they will be visible at 360 degrees in a room illuminated by natural light. It is exciting to see the models of nuraghes and the statues together looking towards the pond and the hill where they were discovered.” Murru then illustrated the foundation’s numerous activities in the teaching sector. “We have involved the Cabras school club, the Artistic High School and the Mossa institute of Oristano and the two universities of Cagliari and Sassari in numerous projects because we believe that children should know and appropriate the treasures that we are honored to safeguard”.

At the end of the conference there was more applause for the passages from Su Cuncordu and su Rosariu by Santu Lussurgiu which attracted dozens of visitors to the Book Fair.

The Foundation’s appointments at the Turin Book Fair continue tomorrow at 11am with the conference entitled “The golds of Tharros” and the goldsmith’s art workshop curated by Ilaria Orri and Pierandrea Carta. On Sunday, again at 11am, the presentation of the Festivals that will enliven Mont’e Prama’s summer, with Giovanni Follesa and Giorgio Murru, while on Monday at the same time there will be space for Archeomagazine MP and the story of the “Fridays at the museum” exhibition. All events will be broadcast live on the Foundation’s Facebook page.
