Turin, “Migrant Islands” returns to the Book Fair

Sardinian and Mediterranean culture showcased at Turinfrom the 10 to 12 Maywith the review “Migrant Islands – Urban Exiles”organized within the “Turin International Book Fair Off“. The themes addressed in this edition – the third – are those of rights, gender violence, Mediterranean contaminations. Mediterranean stories of exiles, opportunities, mobilizations, volunteering and traditions.

Three days of presentations, workshops, concerts and screenings organized by the Association of Sardinians in Turin “A. Gramsci”, Babelica APS and Mescla (University of Turin), in collaboration with Arci, Fasi and various third sector bodies, the university of Cagliari, schools, migrant communities and the publishing world. A long weekend of events located between the Polo del ‘900, the A. Gramsci club and the Volere La Luna space with the presence of dozens of artists, authors and social entertainers who will liven up the city under the Mole with debates, concerts, presentations, screenings, performances, workshops and tastings.
Many names from the island and national scene will participate in the days scheduled this weekend. “There review was born in 2022 to revive those social spaces damaged by the pandemic with culture and reading. Let’s start Friday at the Polo del ‘900 inside the Antonio Gramsci Piedmont Foundation with the volume on Türkiye by Fulvio Bertucelli accompanied by the Anatolian music of Nihat Aksoy.
We continue in the headquarters of the Sardinians in Turin in via Musiné with the show cooking “The art of culurgiones”, the concert by Chiara Effe from Cagliari and the presentation of the latest book ofauthor Clara Murtas.
The first appointment on Saturday is at 5.30pm with Giuseppe Seche of the University of Cagliari, author of a book on the Mediterranean projection of Sardinia in the Late Middle Ages, who will dialogue with Enrico Laerte Corona. At 6.30pm Piergiorgio Pulixi will present his latest work, published by Rizzoli, in dialogue with Pasquale Ruju, director of the Dora Nera Festival. Followed by dinner of Mediterranean contaminations between Sardinia and Kurdistan in the company of the poet Pasqualina Deriu before the concert “Talk to me about love. Music and poems from Istanbul to Salento” with Francesco Partipilo (saxophone and percussion), Massimiliano Carrino (voice and guitar) and Murat Cinar (narrator).

On Sunday the event will host Michele Rumiz, director of Slow Food Travel, at 11am, who will present his gastronomic travel book on Turkey before the raw milk cheese workshop curated by Rosario Decrù, Parco della Alpi Cozie dairy technician and Emanuele Cardia, shepherd from Ogliastra transplanted to Piedmont. At 1pm malloreddus alla campidanese, cannonau, traditional Sardinian music and dances by the folk group of the Sardinian-Turin association.

At 4.30 pm the exhibition moves to the Volere La Luna headquarters in via Trivero 16 for the presentation of Pietro Pinna’s latest book on the Italian presence in California in the company of Piera Genta of Onav Torino, the organization of wine tasters who will curate an original tasting of Californian and Nurra wines, the latter represented by Tenute Delogu. After the sensorial tour, space for music and literature with the musical reading “Ti shooting a photo” by Renzo Cugis and Lele Pittoni before the concert by Matteo Leone, a journey between blues and jazz narrated in tabarchino by the artist from Calasetta.
At 8pm popular couscous in the company of Massimo Carlotto for the first public presentation of “Trudy”, just released by Einaudi. Great closure on the subject of Mediterranean contaminations with the national preview of the web-documentary “Anda, Torra e Ghorba” together with the authors Rosi Giua, photographer and documentary maker, and Raffaele Cattedra, geographer of the University of Cagliari, a project that sheds light on a forgotten history: the Italians, among them many Sardinians, who lived in Tunisia for many years who returned home when the North African country gained independence in the 1950s. They dialogue with the authors Nicola Melis from the University of Cagliari and Giuseppe Bonfratello from the Labriola Documentation Center in Turin.
