Double presentation of books dedicated to Don Minzoni

Tomorrow at 5pm the Aula Magna of the Malatestiana Library will host a double presentation of books organized together with the Historical Institute of the Resistance and the Contemporary Age of Forlì-Cesena and other local entities. These are the books “L’affaire don Minzoni. The murder, the investigations, the trials” (Franco Angeli, 2024) written by Andrea Baravelli and Paolo Veronesi, and “Don Giovanni Minzoni. Memories 1909-1919” (Diabasis) edited by Rocco Celato and Gian Luigi Melandri, with a preface by Daniele Menozzi. The afternoon, with free admission, will be introduced by the President of the Historical Institute Ines Briganti and will be enriched by the contributions of Stefano Campana of the “Benigno Zaccagnini” Association and the respective authors.

Don Giovanni Minzoni was killed by two young fascists on the evening of 23 August 1923 in Argenta. Why was he murdered? Who gave the order and who acted? How did the investigators proceed? Who worked to prevent justice from being done? Through a compelling narrative of the investigations, taken from court documents and often unpublished archive documents, the book places the cruel story of Don Minzoni within the framework of that fundamental turning point in Italian history and original fascism. The figure of the priest (loved by the population, very active in social affairs, member of the People’s Party, founder of the boy scouts) is thus brought into focus in the difficult political context in which he found himself operating. The work is completed by an investigation into the lives and destinies of the main protagonists of the affair.
