“Return to the land of the fathers”, the book-logbook by Mauro Manca

“Return to the land of the fathers”, the navigation of over 800 miles through the lands of Ferrarese, Veneto, Venezia Giulia and Istria, becomes a book. Mauro Manca, the director of the Egea museum, wrote it in the form of a logbook.

«We wanted to retrace the journey made in 1948 by 53 families of exiles who, aboard 13 fishing boats, left Chioggia to reach Fertilia, where a young priest from Rovinj had dreamed of creating a new Pola. A great adventure which has the characteristics of an extraordinary undertaking, carried out also thanks to a series of favorable situations and lucky coincidences, which made us believe that we had been protected by those to whom this journey was dedicated”, writes Manca. The chronicle of an adventure, which will also become material for a docu-film.

The journey of the Klizia boat involved the commander Giulio Marongiu, born in 1938, an exile since he was eight years old, his son Federico Marongiu, 54 years old, Mauro Manca, 53 years old, son of refugees, Giuseppe Bellu, 51 years old, Venetian mother and Sardinian father.
