An increasingly extensive red zone on July 26th, the day of the inauguration of the Paris 2024 Games. The parade of boats is planned along the Seine, even if the President Macron he spoke several times of a plan B (Trocadero Gardens or Stade de France in St. Denis). Fear is the terrorism, not so much something organized as “lone wolves”. Triathlon and cross-country swimming competitions are also planned in the Seine, and it has been guaranteed that the waters will be “fairly clean”. But it is the date of July 26th that worries the French authorities. The Paris police have announced that they will extend the anti-terrorism perimeter to all buildings overlooking the Seine.

There will be 220 thousand spectators who will be able to attend the opening ceremony for free, a very high number considering the reduction of almost half the number of spectators according to the original plan. “There is an anti-terrorism perimeter with a series of controls, and now we wanted to extend it to all buildings with a view of the Seine, beyond what was established by the organizers,” explained the prefect Nunez. However, he did not specify the final number of security forces that will be deployed. Among the details provided by the prefect, it was revealed that the areas near the Seine, in the center of Paris, will be closed, as well as the metro stations and adjacent museums such as the Louvre, the Orsay or the Museum of Decorative Arts, among the others.

The idea is that museums will operate normally in the days leading up to July 26, as well as after the opening day, although they will have to undergo strict security checks, as will almost all major areas or potential attack targets in Paris. The numerous hotels along the 7 kilometers of the Seine in central Paris will operate as usual. Furthermore, during the ceremony, Parisian airports will be closed to private and scheduled flights and many authorities will have to leave the next day, July 27.
