Louise, 12, had disappeared last Saturday. Her lifeless body, “with numerous stab wounds”, was found Sunday in a forest in Germany. Two days later, the investigators announced that they were to confess to the crime two peers of the girl, 12 and 13 years old. The case is shocking the whole country and the community of Freudenberg, a town on the border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. Not a word on the reason for the crime, from the police: “What may be a motive for children, may not be understandable for adults,” said the Koblenz prosecutor, Mario Mannweiler. “What has happened pulls the ground out from under your feet,” commented the Minister President of the Land, Hendrik Wuest. Even more emblematic are the words of Juergen Sues, vice president of the local police station: “After more than 40 years of service, this case leaves me speechless”.

The accused girls are so young that they can’t even be charged. And very little information was given during the press conference of the investigators conducting the investigation. The prosecutor has repeatedly stressed the delicacy of the case, precisely because of the age of the victim and the perpetrators. According to an indiscretion reported in the evening by Focus, the motive for the crime could be revenge for a teasing by Luise towards one of the other girls. But the only thing confirmed so far is that the two very young women confessed to the murder after being questioned and contradicting the testimonies of other inhabitants of the area. Luise had disappeared on Saturday afternoon near her city, Freudenberg, not returning home after visiting a girlfriend. After a day of searching, the body was found in a forest near a bicycle path, across the border from Rhineland-Palatinate.
The body was discovered two kilometers from the partner’s house, but in the opposite direction to the road that Luise would have had to take to return to her parents. It is not clear why the three girls found themselves in that wood and whether they arrived together. The murder weapon has not yet been found, but only hypothesized through the autopsy. According to the investigators, there are no other people suspected of Luise’s death and, above all, no involvement of adults is assumed. Evidence of a sexual crime had already been excluded by the police yesterday. German law provides for the possibility of incriminating a minor from the age of 14. It is therefore already certain that the judiciary will not be able to proceed against the two girls accused of killing Luise. This does not mean, however, “that now nothing will be done,” the prosecutor stressed. “We are putting the case in the hands of the authorities for minors,” added the magistrate, explaining that psychologists, psychiatrists and experts have also been mobilized. The two girls are currently in a protected structure of the Office for minors.
