The satirical weekly «Charlie Hebdo» published a series of caricatures of the Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Khameneiunleashing the wrath of Tehran, which has promised a tough reaction.

Indeed, they are out in today’s special issue 35 satirical cartoonsthe best among hundreds chosen by the editorial staff in the context of an international competition organized in support of the popular protest movement in Iran, in the wake of the killing last September 16 of the young Iranian Kurdish Mahsa Amini.

The special issue on newsstands today, entitled “Mullahs, go back to where you come from” and dedicated precisely to Iran, also commemorates the eighth anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo newsroom bombing, which took place on January 7, 2015. It cost the lives of 12 people. The attackers claimed to be acting on behalf of al-Qaedato avenge the newspaper’s decision to publish blasphemous caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

“We want to support what is happening in Iran. And, seeing Ali Khamenei, a character who often appears in the media, we thought he was a good subject for a caricature. The supreme leader, unlike Muhammadhe is not a prophet, so we can draw him as much as we want,” the director of Charlie Hebdo, Riss, told the newspaper “Liberation”.
