Entertainment but field factor respected in the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup: in Turin on January 24th the semi-finals will be Conegliano-Novara and Scandicci-Chieri. Haak redeems himself after the bad test against Milan and Conegliano overcomes Bergamo in a comeback. Scandicci rejects Vallefoglia’s return thanks to the usual Antropova. Egonu is too alone and Milan, a bad copy of the home version, surrenders to a beautiful Novara led by Tolok and Ishikawa. Chieri suffers but extinguishes Busto’s energy in the distance.

NOVARA-MILANO 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-18)

A great Novara snatches the ticket to the Final Four of the Italian Cup in Turin. In the 3-1 victory against Milan, the guests started well, with Egonu unstoppable (10 points in the first set). Then the home defense wall takes the measure of the Italian opposite, the guest attack drops (becoming obvious with many balls attacked by Egonu herself) and the Igor serving begins to build the advantage (5 aces from Tolok in the third set), unlike Numia who finds nothing from 9 metres. Cambi can orchestrate his game at will with excellent percentages in particular from MVP Ishikawa, and Novara finds no opposition in a crescendo final.

Novara: Tolok 25 points, Muri team 7 (Squarcini 4), Ace team 7 (Tolok 5).

Milano: Egonu 27 points, Muri team 8, Ace team 2.

CHIERI-BUSTO 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 25-27, 25-20, 15-8)

Chieri returns to the Italian Cup Final Four two years after Trieste. At PalaFenera the match with Busto is a balanced battle decided by tiebreak. At the start, the Colillas wasted a +6 (13-7) and gave up the first set to the advantage, with Negro who on set point Uyba stopped the play due to an undetected serve. Nervini and Kunzler (MVP at the end) led the comeback in the second half, and in the following half Parra was decisive for the butterflies who defended so hard. The home block-defense, however, increases in tone at a distance, and the 4 blocks in the short set direct the score in favor of the Piedmontese team.

Chieri: Kunzler 27 points, Muri team 10 (Gray 5), Ace team 1.

Busto Arsizio: Obossa 23 points, Muri team 10 (Van Avermaet), Ace team 2.

Scandicci-Vallefoglia 3-2 (25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 18-16)

It seemed like it was over after the second set, while instead Savino del Bene had to work hard to bring home her fourteenth consecutive victory and access to the Final Four of the Italian Cup in Turin. The Megabox seemed destined to give in, but thanks to a very strong recovery, from a mental and technical point of view, in the third and fourth sets, the spectators present at the Pala Big Mat witnessed a great evening of volleyball, which ended only in the tie-break, after almost two and a half hours of play. Antropova (29 points), Skinner (16) and Nwakalor (15) on one side, Bici (31), Omoruyi (20) and Ungureanu (10) on the other, delight the fans with high-class shots. Both sextets also performed well in the receiving and defensive phases, with Castillo and De Bortoli great protagonists. The players who entered during the match did very well, above all Franklin, awarded MVP. In Turin, on January 4th in the semi-final, the Tuscans will face Chieri.

Scandicci: Antropova 29 points, team blocks 13 (6 Nwakalor), team aces 2.

Vallefoglia: Bici 31 points, team blocks 10 (4 Candi), team aces 2.

Conegliano-Bergamo 3-1 (26-28, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23)

After a rather subdued first set, despite Haak’s 12 points, Prosecco Doc managed to close the match against Bergamo in just under two hours and gain access to the Final Four in Turin. From the second set onwards the Panthers took control of the game, setting and dictating the pace. We see Fahr again after a month on the Taraflex, and this is also excellent news for Imoco. The Venetian guns Haak (28 points on the scoresheet and MVP) and Gabi (15), together with the central players, managed to penetrate the Orobic defense easily, even if Bergamo held out, as much as it could. For the Lombard team, without Cese Montalvo, the weight of the attack fell on Mosser (16), Bolzonetti (10), Meli (9) and Kipp, the latter subpar, with only 7 balls put on the ground and 21% in attack. In the semifinals in Turin, Conegliano will face Novara who defeated Milan 3-1 and against whom they will play in the championship in a few days.

Conegliano: Haak 28 points, team blocks 8, team aces 3.

Bergamo: Mosser 16 points, team blocks 6, team aces 2.
