Trento-Monza, the match
—
Against Vero Volley, Itas keeps the reins of the game firmly in hand, especially in the break phase, putting a lot of pressure on Monza’s ball exchange. Typical sextet at the start of the match with Eccheli spending his first discretionary time-out already at 4-1, but it is of little use because Trento immediately pushes on the accelerator (9-3) and a new guest time-out is called very early. The aces of Ramon and Bartha push the Dolomites (15-6), Monza struggles to fuel up in both phases of the game and the partial (21-9 with a block by Gabi Garcia) soon becomes a catwalk for Itas. In the second set Monza manages to stay in the Trentino’s wake (7-6) at the start, but by taking advantage of serve and block they first go to 9-6 with a new guest time-out and then manage to keep their distance (14-11). Sbertoli on serve, Ramon and Flavio attack and Vero Volley thus breaks away (20-15) and Trento escapes towards the end of the set. The match returns to balance at the start of the third set (10-10), with Bartha serving who first maintains parity and then allows Itas to reach 14-13. Both sextets focus a lot on serving in this phase (15 all), with Ramon’s ace putting his team ahead 17-15 which becomes 18-15 with yet another error at the net by the Brianza players. Flavio’s block, the fifth of his own in this match, allows Trento to maintain their lead (19-16), continuing a very good job in the break phase, the hosts keep the margin (21-16). An advantage that allows the home team to sail without too many problems towards the final success in three partials.
