Raise. Squash. And send the ball beyond the wall of darkness and silence. This is the objective of the thirteenth edition of the Befana Volley, scheduled for Monday 5 January at 8.30pm at the Palas Allende in Fano. The usual four-way challenge for solidarity is therefore back, in an evening show for charity which will see the Lega del Filo d’Oro, which has long been on the front line in support of deafblind people and people with multiple psychosensory disabilities, as the recipient of the generosity of those present – entry is free of charge.
Organized by the ‘Noi Insieme’ association (thanks to the creator and organizer Piero Valori) with Avis Fano and Vespa Club, the event also enjoys the patronage of the Municipality of Fano. Taking to the field will be the priests (led by Bishop Andrea Andreozzi), the politicians (in a bipartisan formation that only solidarity can bring together), the doctors from the Fano hospital and – for the second consecutive year – the GAS team, an acronym that unites journalists and the media, Avis and security men (law enforcement). And they are the opponents to beat, as reigning champions. The teams will compete in 15-point matches, so as to make the evening more streamlined. Exceptional godparents will be the brothers Alice and Francesco Pagliarini, sprinters of the Italian national athletics team. The evening will be presented by Augusto Alessi and Federica Rossi, with the participation of Belen Giommi (National Corona Winter tour 2024) and with live commentary by Gianluca Ruscitti.
Not just volleyball, obviously, as has always been the format of the initiative. The delivery of the Befana stockings to the children present, offered by Crai supermarkets and delivered by the Vespa Club, is essential. And then the beauty, with the girls from the La Splendida d’Italia competition organized by Francesca Cecchini, the entertainment for children thanks to Mickey’s Baby Party, the dance with the Accademia dello Spettacolo. Rosalba Barattini, Latin Show champion, will also perform. The Red Cross will also be present. It will therefore be a ‘joint force deployment’ for humanitarian purposes, embellished by the songs of Luca Vagnini and the Target Band, authors of the official soundtrack of the event which will be sung during the evening. There will also be a prize draw.
An authentic collective demonstration of solidarity, therefore, as also underlined by Piero Valori. Paola Andreoli, head of communications and events of the Lega del Filo d’Oro Foundation, is pleased with the initiative. “We are happy to be the recipients of the funds deriving from the evening,” he said, recalling the presence of the Lega del Filo d’Oro in twelve regions, with the imminent arrival also in Sardinia. “For 61 years – he added – we have been working in favor of deafblind people. In 2024 we had 1270 users, for whom we do not focus on the lack, but on the residual potential to be exploited”. Assistance, education and rehabilitation are the other key words of the activities carried out by the Lega del Filo d’Oro, which in turn is always on the field to restore as much dignity and autonomy as possible to the people it takes care of.
