Has Oda revealed the mythology behind the legendary Elbaf fruit?

The mystery of Loki’s devil fruit has finally caught the attention of fans of One Piece. After months of speculation and theories, new details finally emerge linking Loki’s power to Norse mythology, surprising those who expected something completely different.

Spoilers follow

Since its first chapters in the story arc, the series has hinted at what Loki’s power might be so big that it threatens the entire world. A bold statement, even for One Piece, where characters are often capable of destroying entire islands or clashing with enormous forces. This naturally sparked a wave of theories among fans as to what devil fruit could justify such power.

Among the most popular hypotheses were fruits based on Norse mythological figures, consistent with the Viking theme of the island of Elbaf (discover 5 unmissable curiosities about Elbaf). Fenrir, the giant wolf destined to swallow the sun during Ragnarök, was a leading candidate, as was Jörmungandr, the gigantic serpent that encircles the world. Other fans suggested Nidhogg, the dragon who devours the roots of the world tree Yggdrasil, or Surtr, the world-burning fire giant in Norse mythology. Even figures like Odin had been hypothesized, although they seemed more daring solutions.

The twist came with the recent spoilers of Chapter 1170. Loki may have consumed the fruit Mythical Zoan modello Ratatoskr. This revelation initially shocked many fans, who considered a squirrel-shaped fruit ridiculous. However, those who know Norse mythology know that Ratatoskr is not just any animal. In the myth, he runs along the world tree transmitting messages between the eagle at the top and the dragon at the base, thus maintaining cosmic balance. If Ratatoskr stopped fulfilling its role, the very structure of the universe would be in danger, making the fruit much more dangerous than it seems at first glance.

Furthermore, Ratatoskr is known to be cunning and provocativecharacteristics that make him a perfect reflection of the character of Loki in mythology. The squirrel not only transmits information, but can distort messages, create conflicts and influence events, mirroring the manipulative and unpredictable nature of the “Cursed Prince”.

To make the situation even more interesting there is Loki’s hammer, It’s rainingwhich may have its own devil fruit. If confirmed, Loki would become one of the very few characters capable of harnessing two powers at the same time: one directly and one through a weapon. Some theories speculate that Ragnir may contain a fruit linked to Thor, creating a link to Norse mythology, given the complex relationship between Loki and the god of thunder.

This combination of powers makes Loki one of the most fearsome characters in the final saga. A seemingly “minor” power, like a messenger squirrel, could in fact have cosmic implicationsespecially when combined with a weapon equipped with a self-contained Devil Fruit. Oda’s narrative continues to surprise, intertwining mythology, strategy and twists in a masterful way.
