Emily in Paris 5, Lily Collins comments on Emily’s final choice and explains why it is right
While waiting to find out what will become of Emily Cooper, her interpreter Lily Collins has expressed her opinion on the matter final choice of the marketing expert, who moved from the United States to Paris in search of a new beginning. Some time has passed since then and Emily has come across numerous opportunities, both professional and sentimental. For example, during a short stay in Rome, he met Marcello Muratori and fell in love with him but, in the fifth season, that love story came to an end. At first, Marcello decided to separate from the family business and dedicate himself to his own brand, reconnecting with Emily. The final episode of the fifth season saw Marcello return from the family business and Emily return to Paris, preferring to focus on her own dreams and not on those of her relationship with Marcello. He wouldn’t have accepted a life in Solitano, not after everything he’s experienced and wants to experience in Paris. And, according to Lily Collins, Emily made the right choice: “I loved it. I feel like every person Emily travels with teaches her a lot about what she needs and doesn’t need, what she wants and what she doesn’t want, which I think is very realistic in our lives,” she revealed to People.
The final episode of season five follows Emily and Marcello to Venezia for the Fashion Week. Marcello is about to launch the first collection of his brand and even his mother, who had sued him, shows up at the fashion show, congratulating her son on the splendid result and inviting him to take the reins of the family business. Emily could also have a share in all this: taking care of the brand’s marketing, giving up Paris and moving to Solitano, a small village outside Rome. “I think Marcello lived a kind of fairytale dream. E [Emily] she truly appreciates, respects and loves him as a human being. But I think she recognized that it wasn’t the life she wanted and that she wasn’t done exploring herself yet. And not that it would have been a bad life, it just wouldn’t have been the fulfilling and right life for her at the time. And so I really liked that he had the courage to make that decision. And as painful as it was, he did it with love and respect. And I loved how they both said goodbye, in a way,” the actress added.
After the breakup, Emily reappears in Paris and is ready to roll up her sleeves, without knowing about the surprise “We don’t leave the season with Emily destroyed. She’s at work, Jane, Minnie Driver’s character, comes in and she’s like, ‘oh-oh’. But Emily comes in in that red dress and says, ‘I’m fine’. And I really like that because I don’t want to leave her in tears. I don’t want to leave Emily in a mess. I want her to be through everything and be okay, I think that’s important,” Collins said. Netflix has not yet renewed Emily in Paris for one sixth season but, if she did, Lily Collins admitted that she wouldn’t mind accepting Gabriel’s invitation: “We don’t know if there will be a sixth chapter, but I would really like to go to Greece.”
