PORTOFERRAIO. The thirteenth season of the television series “ lands on ElbaThe BarLume crimes“. For three Mondays in a row, starting from January 5th, all of Italy will be able to admire the beauties of the island on the small screen, which will be the backdrop to yellow-tinged stories. Produced by Sky Studios Palomar (a Mediawan Company), the three episodes are freely inspired by the series of books “I delitti del BarLume” (Sellerio editore) by the Pisan writer Marco Malvaldi.
The plot
A missing woman, a tragic escape from a wedding and a shark in the pine forest will be the protagonists of this season’s mysteries. And the protagonist of BarLume, Commissioner Fusco, played by the actress Lucia Mascino, will be the one to unravel the knot of solving mysteries. At his side are his somewhat clumsy associates, agents Cioni and Govoni, respectively played by the actors Daniele Marmi and Guglielmo Favilla.
The actors and the island
And in the background Elba. Which for the actors, after filming so many seasons of the series, has become home. «My relationship with the island is deep and growing. Every time I come to work here I think about how beautiful Elba is.” This is how the protagonist describes her relationship with the island Lucia Mascino.
«The island has this effect: when you come here you taste the boats, the mountains in the woods where you can walk – he says -. And you can always find a little corner where you can be alone.” At the beginning the actress only took the ferry from Piombino to Elba for work. «But then I started coming for the holidays too – he says -. Because when you work you have a certain mentality, but when you come there and take your mind off it, you perceive the island in a different way. And the “house effect” is created.” There are many places that make the actress’s heart beat when she thinks of Elba.
«I am very close to Marciana Marina, and I really like Poggio and Marciana Alta. I also love walking in Madonna del Monte, where the sanctuary is – continues the protagonist of the crime series –. But every year I discover something more. A bike ride on a new ring, a walk on Monte Perone.” Joking about her knowledge of Elba, the actress then says that “I could be a guide on the island”. And as a tourist, the actress also issues a warning against mass tourism on the island: “I feel like I belong to the island, but in any case Elba must be protected.”
Even the actor-agents always willingly return to the island. «I have known Elba for thirteen years now – says the man from Arezzo Daniele Marmi –. And I know Marciana Marina very well, since when we come to shoot I’m always here.” For him, «the relationship I have with Elba is a village relationship, like I have with Arezzo. Both here and in Arezzo it is like living in a big village – he explains –. It’s really nice to stay here, you feel at home. And then every time you come you see the place as it was before and as it is now.”
No less enthusiastic about working, and therefore also about living on the island for a few weeks a year, than my colleague Guglielmo Favilla. «I’m in Rome, but I’m from Livorno, and even there the reality is small – says Favilla -. Marciana Marina gives you the attention that only a country can give you. As soon as I discovered Elba I thought what incredible wonders this island has.”

The episodes of BarLume will be broadcast on 5, 12 and 19 January. “The couples game“, is the title of the first episode. The second episode is instead “Pasquali’s weddingThe first episode is directed by Roan Johnsonwhile the second is co-directed by the same director and by Marco Teti. And to close the season there will be “The shark dance”, which sees a woman as director, Milena Cocozza. The series will be broadcast every Monday on Sky Cinema, and can be seen in streaming on Now.
