As usual, there will be no shortage of television coverage to allow the many faithful to follow the Solemnity from home: Channel 21 will open live television from 8 in the morning. Just tune in to channel number 10 of Digital Terrestrial in Campania (number 19 in Lazio), or connect to streaming on the Canale 21 website for those who want to follow it from their computer, tablet or mobile phone.

San Gennaro, the program for 19 September 2023

The program for the solemnity of San Gennaro on 19 September 2023, as communicated by the Curia of Naples, is as follows:

  • 8am: Holy Mass
  • 9 am: Celebration of the Passion of San Gennaro
  • 10 am: Pontifical Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Mons. Domenico Battaglia, with display of the ampoule with the relic of the Blood. At the end, blessing of the City in the churchyard
  • 12.30pm: Holy Mass
  • 4-6.30pm: Veneration of the Blood relic
  • 6.30 pm: Holy Mass presided over by the auxiliary bishop

However, the program could undergo changes if the miracle is not achieved in the morning: in fact, there can be up to three attempts during the day (generally around 12 and then at 4.30 pm). However, if after these further attempts the blood does not actually dissolve, it is called a “miracle that did not happen”. The last time it happened was on December 16, 2020, on the occasion of the “secular miracle”.
