Who were the mayoral candidates in Florence
After 10 years of Dario Nardella’s administration, the Democratic Party has focused on Education Councilor Sara Funaro, also supported by the Italian Left + Europe, Action, Green Europe, Labor Movement, Volt and Center Movement. Instead Italia Viva, in controversy due to the primaries not being held, nominated the former regional vice-president Stefania Saccardi as a candidate. Cecilia Del Re – former councilor of the Nardella council – also ran alone with the Firenze Democratica list. The 5 Star Movement supported Lorenzo Masi, outgoing city councilor. The radical left has nominated Dmitrij Palagi (Communist Refoundation, Possible and Power to the People). In the centre-right the candidate for mayor was the former director of the Uffizi Eike Schmidt. Gianni Alemanno’s Independence Movement and the Popolo della Famiglia supported Andrea Asciuti instead. Completing the list of candidates are civic leaders Alessandro De Giuli (Firenze Rinasce), Francesco Zini (Firenze Cambia) and Francesca Marrazza (Ribella Firenze).
