IT-Alert in Basilicata, Lombardy and Molise. Today at 12 pm the test message from the national alert system

Today, September 19th at 12pm, mobile phones in Basilicata, Lombardy and Molise will receive a test message from IT-Alert, the new national public alert system for direct information to the population.

What is the test message that will arrive on phones in the three regions

The test message will arrive at the same time as an audible alarm. The text of the alert, for the experimental period, is this:

EMERGENCY ALERTS – This is a TEST MESSAGE from the Italian public warning system. Once operational it will alert you in the event of a serious emergency. For information go to the website www.it-alert.it and fill out the questionnaire

IT-Alert is the national public system broadcast via cell phones and promoted by the Civil Protection. After the testing phase in the various regions, IT-Alert will be able to promptly inform the population in the event of serious emergenciesfor example natural disasters.

To receive the message the telephone must be turned on and have reception. The IT-Alert notification temporarily blocks all other functions of the mobile phone, but to reactivate them all you need is a touch on the text to confirm reception.

Subsequently, you can fill out a questionnaire which will allow the instrument to be improved when it is actually fully operational.

How the IT-Alert message is delivered

Taking advantage of SMS Cell Broadcast communication technology, the message is sent within a group of geographically close telephone cellscapable of delimiting an area that corresponds as much as possible to that affected by the emergency.

Due to this feature it is possible that an alert message is therefore also received by those who find themselves with their mobile phones near the border of an emergency area.

The Civil Protection explained that no personal data of those who receive the message are processed in any way (collected, archived, consulted, etc.) and that the system is one-way (from the telephone operator to the device) and does not allow receiving any type of return data or feedback from the cell phones reached.

To receive the alert message it is not necessary to be connected to a certain type of network, for example 3G, 4G, or 5G, you do not need Wi-Fi, or even download any apps. However, remember that the telephone must be turned on and have reception.

The next test will take place on September 21st in Lazio, Valle d’Aosta and Veneto.
