The well-known psychiatrist Paolo Crepet, author of the book “Prendetevi la Luna” published by Mondadori, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, talks about the issues that afflict modern society and the younger generation.
Answering the question about the nature of our society, Crepet highlights the danger of lowering curiosities. “We’re full,” he says, but not in the positive sense of the word. This satiety breeds aggression rather than serenity, a side effect of our perception of having “everything.”
Crepet is also critical of the current generation of parents, calling it “the most immature”. While young people were “born social,” their parents were “struck” by the introduction of cell phones. This has led to a loss of manual dexterity and cognitive abilities in children, as well as an inability to listen on the part of adults.
Speaking of the violence and aggression that emerge in society, Crepet refers to a profound cultural void. This is marked by a feeling of helplessness and indifference which, according to him, arises from the inability to deal with problems in a constructive way. “Whoever is aggressive is impotent: in thought, intelligence, imagination,” he states.
Capre’s intervention is therefore a window onto a series of social and cultural problems that require serious reflection. In a sated but not serene world, how can we nourish the dreams of the youngest and encourage a more attentive and sensitive society? Questions destined not to have an answer.
