Davis Cup 2023: news on the tennis tournament

The Davis Cup draw today will allow Italian tennis to know the name of its opponent in the quarter-finals. The Italian team reached the Final Eight after the victory over Sweden and will be one of the 8 nations that will play for the title in Malaga from 21 to 26 November. The team led by Captain Volandri can be combined with one between Holland and Great Britain. Here’s everything you need to know about the draw for the Davis Cup Finals and the direct elimination phase.

The Italy of Arnaldi, Sonego, Musetti, Vavassori and Bolelli who hopes to also be able to count on Sinner and Berrettini with the unknown Fognini (after the breakup with Volandri) is one of the 8 teams that qualified for the Finals. The draw which will be held today, Tuesday 19 September at 12pm Italian time, will allow us to define the framework for the quarter-finals and the final draw of the tournament. There will therefore be 4 direct elimination matches that will define the path with the further matches of the semi-finals and the final.

The teams qualified for the Davis Cup Final Eight are Canada (who came first in the Azzurri’s group), Czech Republic, Australia, Finland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Serbia and Italy. The absence of the USA and Spain, eliminated in the groups, is causing a stir. Who are Italy’s possible opponents? Having qualified as second in group A, the Azzurri will face one of the winners of groups B and D, that is Great Britain or Holland. The match will be played with the usual system of two singles and one doubles, without the possibility of a repechage.

These are the dates of the Davis Cup final eight. We start on November 21st with the quarterfinals, with the final to be played on November 26th. The hope is that Italy will be in the last act:

  • Quarter finals: 21, 22 and 23 November
  • Semifinals: 24 and 25 November
  • The final: November 26th
