When on August 10, 2017 Massimo Cellino became the owner of Brescia from the then patron Marco Bonometti his goal was clear: to re-propose, at least in part, what he had achieved in Lombardy Cagliari in the 22 years of its management.
THEY WERE DREAMS, THEY BECAME NIGHTMARE – Of course, imagining reaching a European semi-final and two of the Italian Cup, as well as 17 participations in the Serie A championship in today’s football as happened in Sardinia at the turn of the 2000s is certainly more complex, but the ambitions were clear.
Almost six years after that handover, Brescia instead of finding the limelight in Serie A is forced to deal with another prospect: relegation to Serie C.
Not even the play-off against Cosenza helped the Rondinelle avoid slipping into the third series 41 years after the last time. To give an idea of how much time has passed, Enzo Bearzot’s Italy had not yet graduated from Spain as world champions.
And now as then this failure will probably lead to the end of an era. In 1982 it was his turn to Frank Baribbi revive the fortunes of the club after the management of Mario Find yourself. Now who knows. In any case, Cellino has reached its terminus in Brescia. And in the worst way.
EVERYTHING COMES FROM CHAOS ON THE BENCH – Clotet, AgliettiClotet again Possanzini and finally, Gastaldello. This was the chronicle of the Brescia bench, or rather the cradle where the debacle of Massimo Cellino’s company developed (together with the latter’s legal problems which took away much of the necessary serenity).
The true paradox of this whole situation is that the start of the championship with Pep Clotet on the bench had been anything but negative, with 5 victories in the first six days. Then, however, from the 6-2 cashed in that of Bari something obviously broke, so much so that in the following six months of victories, regardless of the coach, only one came, with 10 draws and 13 defeats. The Clotet-bis it was, in fact, a clear attempt more due to dissatisfaction with the two weeks of Aglietti management than out of real conviction. Possanzinion the other hand, was the result of a clearly desperate situation.
Daniel Gastaldello, on the other hand, managed, thanks also to a greater knowledge of the universe of the Brescian first team, to change course, at least partially. So much so that in his 13 games as head coach eleven useful results arrived as proof that the technical material to make a different season was there.
THE MARKET REVOLUTION – Having analyzed the primary reasons for this sporting catastrophe, now we must also look to the future. Market. In fact, it is difficult to imagine that many of the players in the squad today decide to stay.
Andrea Cistana, Florian Ayé, Andrea Papetti, Massimo Bertangoli, Alexander Jallow, Tom van de Looi, Emanuele Ndoj are just some of the names destined to enliven the summer weeks about their future.
Their farewell would impoverish the Rondinelle squad of a large part of the qualitative rate currently in place, but the figures coming from the sale of the respective labels would, on the other hand, allow the club to invest significantly in the construction of a roster suitable for the C series
All under review, all transferable. Probably except one. Captain. The relationship between Dimitri Bisoli and Brescia goes beyond the mere football link. And who knows if the midfielder decides to be the permanent center of gravity of the new course which will have to have the return of the city and its team to the most important stages as its sole objective.
