Campobasso, 29 March 2023 – Campobasso wakes up after a night on the open, still alive in his heart and mind 11:52 pm earthquake, when a shock of magnitude 4.6 it crossed Molise, also felt in Abruzzo, Puglia and Campania (including Naples). The earthquake, according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, had the town of Montagano (Cb) as its epicenter. Fear and people on the street in the hotspots of the earthquake, with hundreds of people who spent the night outside their homes. It is unlikely that the population felt last night’s 1.50 earthquake (magnitude 2.0), while someone may have felt this morning’s (2.6) at 6:43 which was followed by another at 6:54 (2.4). A sign that the seismic swarm, which has been going on for days with several minor tremors, continues to affect the area.
Scary night
Fear returns to be felt in the land of the drama of San Giuliano di Puglia, when in 2002 29 children and a teacher died in the collapse of the Iovine school.
A short but intense shock, that of last night, recorded with a hypocenter at a depth of 23 kilometers. And the people of Molise, in Campobasso as in Montagano, this time reacted with moments of panic. People who fled into the street, who took away suitcases with clothes. “Luckily, from a first reconnaissance lap, the situation seems to be good: no particular damage has been reported. The checks will have to be done in a more thorough way, of course. Many took to the streets: there was a lot of fear, but we immediately opened our multipurpose structure for those who wanted to sleep away from home”, declared the mayor of Montagano, Giuseppe Tullo yesterday evening. Just some fallen rubble, apparently.
“The shock was felt very strong. The schools in the area, Petrella, Matrice, and our nursery will be closed,” said the mayor. E schools closed also in the capital, in Campobasso, as decided by the mayor Roberto Gravina.
