Three thousand marched through the streets of Milan in memory of Davide Cesare, Dax, stabbed to death by a neo-fascist on March 16, 2003. The memory of Fausto Tinelli and Lorenzo Iaio Iannucci, Iaio, the Leoncavallo militants also commemorated with him died in an ambush on March 18, 1978.
As early as lunchtime, hundreds of people began to crowd into Piazzale Loreto, many arriving from Spain, France, Greece and Germany. The procession left divided into eight different sections, one for each of the topics discussed by the assembly that proclaimed the demonstration, from the climate emergency to the housing crisis, passing through the situation of prisons. There is also an anarchist piece in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito and his fight against the 41bis.
With the access roads to the central areas of the city barred, the big snake moved towards the periphery. «Dax lives in every occupied house, in every social space, in every square that claims social rights, in internationalist battles», he said over the megaphone. Among the banners, one worth mentioning reads “No to the 2026 Olympics, against your fake ice”, evidence of a nascent fight against yet another major event that will change the face of Milan.
The fears of the day before were groundless, with hundreds of anti-riot agents who had been mobilized for the occasion. The only news item: a few buckets of paint were thrown at some bank branches. At the end of the procession, in via Durante, a mural with the inscription «Dax 2003-2023» was created.
Another procession had taken place on Thursday evening, starting from via Brioschi and arriving in via Gola. That night an abandoned building between via Palmanova and via Oropa was also occupied. Two banners were lowered from the windows: “Dax exists” and “The stars guide us in the night”.
