Former US President Donald Trump expects to be “arrested” next Tuesday as part of an investigation into paying money to a porn star ahead of the 2016 election and urged Americans to protest.
Citing a “leak” from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, Trump denounced this on his Truth Social platform. “The leading Republican candidate and former president of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday next week. Protest, let’s take back our nation!” Is the appeal of the former head of the White House.
For a few days now, rumors have been multiplying about a possible indictment of Donald Trump by a popular jury, the Grand Jury, a body made up of citizens with wide investigative powers in charge of deciding on the indictment. At this stage, the investigation is led by Manhattan Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democratic-appointed magistrate. It would be the first time that a former American president faces a criminal trial.
At the center of several legal proceedings, so far Trump has never been indicted. The New York investigation concerns the payment in 2016 to a porn star, Stephanie Clifford aka Stormy Daniels, of 130 thousand dollars to convince her not to reveal her relationship with the future president and not damage the electoral campaign that would have led to her election to the White House. Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, testified against him before the grand jury.
