Coverflex: according to an internal survey, the price increases for summer holidays lead employees to use their welfare budget to treat themselves to a bit of rest during the summer

According to data collected from a survey commissioned by Facile.it a mUp Rearch e Knownit is clear that this year in Italy approximately 6.5 million people will not be able to afford a vacation, of which 3.7 indicated economic reasons as the main reason. The report also reveals that among those who will give up for budget reasons, 47% indicated the general increase in costs among the main reasons. And in fact the trend is also confirmed by a survey conducted by Assoutenti and the Training and Research Center on Consumption (Crc), which underlines a price increase of between 15% and 20% compared to last year: it is a growth that affects various sectors of tourism, including flights, ferries, accommodation and beach services and which, consequently, makes summer holidays a luxury that is now difficult to afford.

Comparing prices with those of 2023, a 19.6% increase is evident for over 30 seaside locations monitored: for a family staying in a three-star hotel from 10 to 17 August, costs can reach up to 3,500 euros, without taking into account that flight prices to seaside locations range between 770 and almost a thousand euros, recording a 15% increase in almost every route compared to the previous year. Furthermore, in some locations the prices of beach services exceed 120 euros per day, and the costs of catering in holiday resorts have also increased, with an average increase of 3.5%1.

Coverflex, a startup specializing in flexible pay, conducted an internal investigation within the company which revealed that in 2024, users with a welfare budget spent an average of around €658. 30% of this expenditure is allocated to leisure time, i.e. travel, culture, experiences, wellbeing and fitness. By taking advantage of their benefits even during the summer season, the employee can save on those items that usually weigh more when planning a vacation.

“The data confirms that those who have a welfare budget that is easy to use and flexible in adapting to the needs of the individual, very often choose to use it to cover the costs of travel and leisure activities,” explains Chiara Bassi, Country Manager of Coverflex – For most workers, summer is synonymous with vacations and rest, moments that are fundamental for the employee’s well-being. The company can therefore encourage employees to make the most of the benefits available to them to better reconcile private life and work, also supporting them during breaks with dedicated budgets. Only in this way is the remuneration package, further enhanced with the addition of a welfare package, perceived by people as complete, useful and spendable”, concludes Chiara Bassi.
