A 56-year-old worker was the victim of a fatal accident around 11 this morning at the Rete Ferroviaria Italiana construction site, along the line connecting Meina to Arona. It happened near Vicolo Pozzo, not far from the parish church of Santa Margherita.

The construction site is located at the northern entrance of the tunnel that passes under Villa Faraggiana. The works involve lowering the level of the tracks to allow the passage of freight trains. The construction site was open from June 8 and will remain active until the end of September.

With a 118 ambulance the man was transported to the sports field in via Dosi where the 118 helicopter rescue landed. On site there was a medicalized ambulance from the Red Cross of Arona detached to 118, the Polfer, the agents of the associated police of the municipalities of Vergante with two units and the technicians of the Spresal of the ASL of Novara. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the doctors, there was nothing that could be done for the 56-year-old.

At this time, law enforcement has not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of the family.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana expresses its condolences and closeness to the family of the deceased worker of a contractor. RFI explains: “The dynamics of what happened are being examined by the competent authorities to whom RFI is offering the widest collaboration. Checks are also underway by RFI”.
