So the grassroots union this morning in front of the Cagliari court at the opening of the trial for the death of Ignazio Sessini, a worker crushed to death by a garbage disposal during the night hours in July 2021 in the Villaservice company in Villacidro.
«In the case of the death of Ignazio Sessini, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cagliari it would be a case of “aggravated manslaughter” because Ignazio “was at work without adequate safety devices”», explains Enrico Rubiu of the USB, recalling that at the moment there are six suspects.
«We as a union have decided to be able to constitute ourselves as a Civil Party because We want to understand why Ignazio was crushed by a garbage disposal and be able to continue our struggle and commitment so that these deaths in the workplace never happen again. He cannot be here today, but we are here to remember him and to remember all the others who died at work, to ask for less exploitation, to ask for more safety in the workplace.”
But above all the request is for “a law that contemplates the crime of work-related homicide. Ignazio died at work, he is one of the many, too many, who die at work, above all, because of the lack of safety measures that companies, to increase their profits, let “their” male and female workers die killed at work like the murder of the Indian agricultural worker Satnam Singh, a brutal event in its dynamics but which gave rise to horrible, inhuman behaviors, which should be unthinkable for anyone, a fact that should be punished for what is work-related homicide”.
