Behind the scenes of the 3rd stage of the 111th Tour de France where there was an organization that worked

– Behind every great champion there is always a team that supports him, gregarious men who sacrifice themselves, mechanics who help, teams that analyze and decide strategies, tactics and race conduct.
Just as behind an event like the one experienced yesterday, on a sultry first Monday in July, there is a dark team effort where institutions, law enforcement agencies and volunteers apply their skills, their work, their commitment.
Two technical tables in the Prefecture and as many in the Police Headquarters, inspections, the planning of the police forces to be employed, the request for reinforcements of municipal/local agents from other municipalities carried out by the Local Police of Tortona and Alessandria, the regional coordination of the Civil Protection which has aroused the civic tide of volunteers, the Highway Police which, with the usual professionalism, has guaranteed the inviolability of the security bubble in which the athletes travel and has regulated, on a wide scale, delicate traffic flows (heavy traffic and that of the motorways).
We must not forget the soul of the town of the “bell towers” with the attentive and thoughtful activity of the mayors of the medium-small towns, of their staff and of the voluntary associations they called to assist (Pontecurone, Viguzzolo, Castellazzo Bormida, Oviglio, Carentino and Bergamasco).
The numbers should be enough to explain the effort made:
- 65 Policemen (Police Headquarters, Casale Police Station, Highway Police and Polfer Alessandria);
- 40 Carabinieri from the Tortona and Alessandria Companies and reinforcements from the Provincial Command;
- 12 Financiers;
- 130 operators of the Local Police of the municipalities involved, also coming from other Regions (Pontecurone, Viguzzolo, Bassa Valle Scrivia Union, Valenza, Pavia, Terre di Fiume Union, Casale Monferrato, Novara, Acqui Terme, Asti, Venaria Reale, Pozzolo Formigaro, Ovada, Basaluzzo, Nole, Verbania, Oleggio, Mountain Union of Olympic Municipalities Via Lattea, Novi Ligure, Biella, Castellazzo Bormida);
- 5 Provincial Police officers;
- Anas and Rfi staff
- 300 volunteers activated by individual municipalities and by the Regional Coordination of Civil Protection.
Finally, the thanks of the Alessandria Police Headquarters go by right to those who had to endure the necessary closure of circulation but, thanks to timely information and organization, operated anyway: the emergency system (118, Health Companies, Fire Brigade); school activities; public transport; industrial, artisanal and logistical activities.
Next appointment (hopefully) at the start of the Vuelta 2025.
