The first session of the new Bagnacavallo City Council took place at 7:30 pm on Monday 1 July, after the consultations of 8 and 9 June which saw the election of Mayor Matteo Giacomoni.

Lorenzo De Benedictis, a councilor for the Democratic Party, was elected president of the City Council. De Benedictis, thirty-five years old, lives in Bagnacavallo. He has a degree in Corporate and Public Administration Law from the University of Bologna in 2015 and currently works for the Unipol Group. He has long been involved in many volunteer activities in the municipal area, of which he has been the organizer on numerous occasions. He is part of the municipal group of Civil Protection volunteers. He was a municipal councilor in Bagnacavallo in the ranks of the Democratic Party from 2014 to 2024 and served as group leader for the Democratic Party in the Council of the Union of Municipalities of Bassa Romagna from 2014 to 2019.

“It will be my duty to promote dialogue and collaboration among all members of the Council – underlined the new president De Benedictis – so that together we can pursue the objectives that we have set ourselves, respecting the different opinions and needs of our citizens. But above all for the well-being of Bagnacavallo.”

The mayor Matteo Giacomoni was also sworn in and the group leaders were designated: for the majority Claudia Tassinari of the PD, Stefano Calderoni of Bagnacavallo Futuro Comune and Massimiliano Bezzi for Alleanza Verdi Sinistra – Partito Socialista Italiano; for the minorities Diletta Principale for Principale Sinaco, Nicholas Anzellotti for Fratelli d’Italia and Maurizio Bragonzoni for Area Liberale.

Following the replacement of the two councilors appointed as assessors, Caterina Corzani and Francesco Ravagli of the Democratic Party, with Laura Nannini and Mirko Albertini, this is the definitive composition of the Bagnacavallo City Council: Matteo Giacomoni (mayor), Lorenzo De Benedictis (president); Pd Nicola Bucchi, Claudia Tassinari, Giulia Carlini, Alex Valgimigli, Cristina Bertaccini, Luigi Cappelli, Laura Nannini, Mirko Albertini; Bagnacavallo Future Municipality Stefano Calderoni; Green Left Alliance – Italian Socialist Party Massimiliano Bezzi; Brothers of Italy Nicholas Anzellotti, Gianfranco Rambelli; Principal Mayor Diletta Principale, Sara Pratesi; Liberal Area Maurizio Bragonzoni.

The appointment of the Board of Directors was also officially announced:

Caterina Corzani (deputy mayor): Budget, Land Management, General Affairs and Citizen Services, Relations with subsidiaries, Equal Opportunities and Participation, Twinning and European Policies.

Fabio Bassi: Environment, Productive Activities, School and Training, Associations.

Lucilla Danesi: Culture, Tourism and Promotion of the territory.

Francesco Ravagli: Public Works and Heritage, Technological Innovation, Youth Policies and Sport, Decentralization.

Maura Zavaglini: Social, health and housing policies, Personnel, Employment policies.

The following matters remain under the responsibility of Mayor Giacomoni: Communication, Legality and Security, Local Police and Civil Protection.

Finally, the representatives of the Bagnacavallo Municipal Council were elected within the Council of the Union of Municipalities of Bassa Romagna: for the majority Lorenzo De Benedictis, Nicola Bucchi and Massimiliano Bezzi and for the minorities Gianfranco Rambelli.
