Lucia Forte takes on the Presidency of the Puglia Committee of the AIRC Foundation for Cancer Research, the first private center for financing independent cancer research in Italy. The appointment, effective from May 2024, was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Foundation. Lucia Forte, from Altamura in Puglia, has gained significant experience as an entrepreneur over the years: she holds the role of CEO of Oropan spa, a leading company in the Italian agri-food scene, is a member of the Board of Directors and a member of the ESG Internal Council Committee of Banca Popolare di Puglia e Basilicata. She is also a member of the General Council of Confindustria Bari-BAT and is president of the Consortium for the protection and valorization of Pane di Altamura DOP.
“I am honored to have been appointed President of the Committee that represents the AIRC Foundation in my beloved land. I am taking up an important baton, successfully held for over twenty years by Michele Mirabella, whom I thank for the excellent work he has done,” says Lucia Forte. “The goal is to make available to the Foundation my experience as an entrepreneur and my sensitivity as a woman who faced a cancer diagnosis twenty years ago. I believe in teamwork and I am certain that, together with the members of the Committee, our volunteers and the entire Apulian community, we will be able to contribute to building a future in which research can bring new treatment opportunities for all types of cancer. I want to inspire, not only those directly affected by the disease, but the entire community, through an approach that integrates scientific research, dissemination of a correct lifestyle and diet and a deep commitment to raising awareness and funds.”
Lucia Forte’s professional career is characterized by a constant orientation towards sustainable innovation and health care, through healthy and balanced nutrition. At the helm of Oropan, she has promoted and developed numerous scientific research projects focused on the development of healthy, functional and nutritionally balanced products, collaborating closely with research institutes and universities. She firmly believes in spreading the culture of prevention, especially among young people, raising awareness of the importance of reducing the risk of cancer through healthy lifestyles and balanced diets.

The AIRC Foundation Puglia Committee has been active since 1983 with the aim of promoting a rich program of information and fundraising events every year that complement AIRC’s national campaigns. Thanks to the commitment of the Committee, volunteers and supporters, 1,798,935 euros have been allocated for Puglia in 2024 to support 14 research projects and 2 scholarships.
