Italy’s failure at Euro 2024 could lower the price of one of Roma’s targets
Spalletti’s Italy adventure ended with a terrible elimination in the round of 16 against Switzerland. It was not so much the score (0-2 in favor of the Swiss), but the terrible performance of the Azzurri that sparked the anger of the fans. In fact, throughout the European Championship, the Italian national team really struggled. and only a last-gasp goal by Zaccagni against Croatia prevented them from exiting the group stage.
The precarious performance of the Italian troops in Germany could however cause some problems. big changes in terms of the market. While on the one hand the clubs that own the Italian players called up for Euro 2024 were hoping for a good performance by Italy to raise the valuation of their players, on the other hand the teams were interested in buying some of the 26 players called up by Spalletti for the European competition they can exploit this debacle.
Roma can do it too, having had one of last season’s best wingers in their sights for some time now. We are talking about Raoul Bellanovato whom Spalletti gave no space at all in the four matches played by Italy at the European Championships (many, given the poor physical condition of the Italian full-backs, would have liked to see him on the pitch).
Bellanova, Ghisolfi wants to lower the price: the move of the Roma ds
Florent Ghisolfi wants to try to convince Torino to let Bellanova go for a lower price than the one initially requested by the Granata. Roma’s sporting director wants to capitalise on Italy’s poor European Championshipeven though Bellanova never took the field.
President Urbano Cairo’s club continues to ask between 15 and 20 million for the former Inter player, who made 39 appearances last season (37 in the league, 2 in the Coppa Italia) and scored one goal for the Granata, in addition to the 7 assists he provided to his teammates. Ghisolfi believes that this valuation is too high: the former Nice sports director’s goal is instead to land the winger from Pogliano Milanese with an offer between 10 and (maximum) 15 million.
At the moment there are no concrete steps forward in the negotiations: however it seems certain that Ghisolfi will knock on Torino’s door again in the next few days. For his part, Bellanova would have shown a certain appreciation for the Rome hypothesis.
