Salerno

An exhausting summer and the signs of a now damaged relationship are increasingly visible. These are hours of reflection for Danilo Iervolino on his adventure at the helm of Salernitana. What could have been the farewell weeks have instead turned into the obligation to relaunch a project that seemed ready to write the word “end”. The sudden break with Brera Holdingsafter weeks of hesitation first and reflections later, has dramatically changed the cards on the table. Iervolino will remain president of Salernitana even if his actual desire to continue not only to invest in the world of football but above all to continue to believe in the Granata project needs to be explored further.

The silence that has accompanied him for months now, broken only with interviews in national newspapers, has fueled an increasingly strong climate of distrust, ready to explode with the protest scheduled for next Thursday at the Arechi. Communication errors, leaving room for a thousand interpretations on the behavior of the owner that have annoyed a square torn apart by the sporting failure culminating in the relegation to Serie B. Clarity is being called for from every corner of the city and the province but also from the worlds of politics, of fans, of public opinion, the same that was missing during the exhausting negotiations with the American fund before the sensational breakup.

So what will Iervolino do? Concern is filtering through from the Granata environment. The Granata patron is ready to take a step back. The necessary condition, however, remains the possibility of finding a buyer as soon as possible to formalize a handover. Yet, at the moment, there are no interested parties on the horizon. In the meantime, it will be a downsizing project, with a policy linked to economic sustainability that will also have repercussions on the quality of the staff to be set up. The delays in the planning stage are already an unequivocal signal in this sense.
