The Rescue Coordination Center-CCS met this evening, Monday 1 July, at the Civil Protection headquarters, to provide an update on the situation created after the floods and landslides of last Saturday, which severely affected Cogne, Cervinia but also areas of the lower Valley. The President of the Council, Renzo Testolin, was present, and the CCS was coordinated by the head of the Civil Protection and Fire Department, Valerio Segor. Representatives of the police force, the army, the Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue, the Fire Brigade, the Civil Protection Volunteers and all the regional structures involved participated.

In Breuil-Cervinia, the work to clear the Marmore torrent, which overflowed on Saturday, continued, as did the work to empty the cellars of debris and water. The situation in the town of Cogne is also improving.

The work to restore the road connection along the regional road has begun and the technical solutions, times and costs are being assessed. Today, 853 people were airlifted down to the valley and another 300 are booked for tomorrow. Four helicopters from the Regional Civil Protection operated with technicians from the Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue team on board, one from the Guardia di Finanza, one from the Fire Brigade and two from the Carabinieri. In addition to scheduled public transport for today only, an additional 90-seater bus was activated between Aymavilles, where the helicopters arrived, and Turin Porta Susa.

The water supply problem is being solved: the aqueduct has been worked on and the tanks are being filled. The obligation to boil water is in force.
