More than a year after the dramatic flood that overwhelmed much of the municipal territory of Cesena, reconstruction, restoration and extraordinary maintenance work continues on the seriously damaged areas in order to make them fully usable and accessible and to ensure a full restart. This is the case, for example, of the social horticultural area of via Sant’Anna 260, already affected by an initial important intervention, and of the Tripark dell’Ippodromo, inaugurated in 2021 and dedicated to the sport of mountain biking, the result of the joint commitment of the Municipality and Triathlon Asd. In both cases, the intervention will be carried out by the Municipal Administration of Cesena and financed thanks to a donation for a total of 80 thousand euros.

“As is known – comments the Councilor for Public Works and Post-Flood Coordination and Reconstruction Christian Castorri – the exceptional rainfall of May 2023 caused widespread flooding of the Savio river that affected several green areas owned by the municipality, making entire portions of the territory unusable due to the presence of the layer of silty clay sediment that was deposited. Also in this case, as already done in other flooded areas, we will proceed with completion work, compared to the works already carried out, and to restore the functionality of the area by removing the silty clay soil deposited on the ground on the tracks used. It is essential for us to respond to every critical issue with the aim of returning totally accessible areas to citizens and associations, ready to once again host activities and initiatives of all kinds”. “In this regard – continues the councilor – we are grateful to Ancc–Coop for having supported us with this important donation, ensuring the restoration of two areas with important social significance”.

The works, which will be carried out starting in September, will be financially covered by the donation destined for the Municipality of Cesena by Ancc–Coop National Association of Consumer Cooperatives – Coop with registered office in Rome. The social gardens of Sant’Anna were completely submerged by the flood and are located on land owned by the Municipality (behind the headquarters of the Fire Brigade). Following an initial arrangement intervention, financed with an initial donation, which restored the area from the layer of silt that had settled, these works will proceed with a new subdivision of the vegetable areas with wooden planks and pegs, with the placement of new tool cabinets inside the two warehouses, with the new numbering of the vegetable areas, and with further improvement interventions in line with the spirit of the donation. The flooding of the Savio river has also completely submerged an area located inside the hippodrome park that is used for Triathlon activities called Tripark. The project aims to restore the functionality of the area by removing the silty clay soil deposited on the ground on the tracks used, with the supply and installation of compacted inert material along the paths.
