You are worthless; you are insignificant; you are stupid; you disgust me, you have ruined my life! These are just some of the phrases that a man living in Correggio systematically addressed to his wife.
Since March 2023, he was returning home after work completely drunk looking for a fight with his wife, accusing her of wasting his money, beating her with pushes, kicks, punches, slaps and breaking every object that came into his reach. On some occasions he would drag her out of the apartment and lock her out of the house.
The man also stalked her at work, sending her phone messages threatening to kill her, and telling her he had an iron in his car. “You went to the Carabinieri, now be careful or I’ll break your head, I have the iron in the car you have no idea from now on what will happen to you, I’m coming to smash your head, the Carabinieri can’t protect you from me, I’ll wait for you under your house and I’ll kill you”. The Correggio military personnel who promptly intervened found a 40 cm steel wrench in his car, which was immediately seized, and reported the man, a 55 year old, for mistreatment of the family and possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence. The man, now under house arrest, has also been placed on an electronic bracelet.
