Truck collision in San Stino, engine on fire in Montecchio: black morning on the A4

The morning of Tuesday 2 July started badly for motorists on the A4 motorway, with a series of accidents that caused significant inconvenience.

In the San Stino area shortly after 7:30, a massive pile-up involving three trucks and a van blocked traffic in the direction of Venice. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the chaos was total, further aggravated by the slowdowns already in place due to the heavy flow of vehicles on Tuesday and by a heavy vehicle that broke down shortly before in Montecchio.

Collision and Slowdowns

The collision caused long queues and slowdowns on the entire A4, particularly in the area of the third lane construction sites and between San Stino. The situation was already critical due to the accident the previous day, which had seriously injured a driver from Chioggia. e.

Accident and queues on A4 between Vicenza Ovest and Montecchio

On the same morning, another accident caused 11-kilometer tailbacks between Vicenza Ovest and Montecchio. Shortly after 6:00, firefighters intervened for a fire on the tractor unit of an articulated lorry, which occurred shortly before the junction of the new Montecchio Maggiore toll booth in the direction of Verona. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this case either.

The Intervention of the Fire Brigade

The driver of the heavy vehicle, which was transporting packed furniture, noticed smoke and promptly pulled over, managing to get out of the vehicle before it caught fire. The fire brigade teams, arriving from Vicenza and Arzignano with two fire engines, two tankers and ten operators, quickly put out the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to the semi-trailer. However, the flames damaged four noise-reduction panels on the highway.

Traffic Impacts

After the fire was extinguished, highway traffic was channeled into a single lane, causing further delays. Highway patrol and traffic police intervened on site to manage the situation and restore traffic. The causes of the fire, probably electromechanical in nature, are currently being investigated by firefighter teams.

Conclusion of Operations

Rescue operations ended around 8:30, but traffic continued to suffer repercussions for much of the morning, both due to the fire and the massive pile-up.
