A Quiet Place – Day 1: Here’s Stephen King’s Opinion on the Prequel, Pass or Fail?

The famous writer saw the prequel of the horror franchise and immediately posted his review on social media

Stephen King shared his review of A Quiet Place – Day 1prequel to the Paramount franchise, released in theaters last weekend, facing stiff competition from Inside Out 2.

However, at least in the US, the film managed to score the best opening weekend of the franchise and received largely positive reviews from critics. It seems that King agrees with this broad consensus. The novelist tweeted his heartfelt reaction to the film, highlighting some of its major attractions.

In his tweet, King called it A Quiet Place – Day 1a rare and great Hollywood film that is both intimate and structured“. He then added: “And the cat steals the show“, referring to the feline “protagonist” of the film. On these pages you can find our review of the film.

On the surface, A Quiet Place – Day 1 It seemed like a pretty easy bet for Paramount, and King is right in calling it a “big hollywood movie“. It comes from an established franchise and has a top-notch star cast featuring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things up-and-comer Joseph Quinn (who we’ll see in Fantastic Four next year). However, the film still takes risks and sets itself apart from similar efforts.

A Quiet Place – Day 1, Lupita Nyong’o attracted by horror: “They help us exercise emotions”

The relatively small cast of A Quiet Place – Day 1 is one of his biggest gambles, with dimensions similar to those of John Krasinski’s original. As in that film, it lives or dies by the audience’s ability to get in tune with the characters and invest in their stories, which contributes to the intimacy King refers to in his review.

It’s no coincidence that many critics have called Nyong’o and Quinn’s performances a strong point of the film, as they are instrumental in making the story work so well.
