Levate, It-Alert exercise for chemical accident

Take off – but the neighbouring municipalities are also involved – it will be the scene of a great exercise promoted by the Prefecture, the provincial fire brigade command and the components of the provincial Civil Protection system: the system of a llapublic It-Alertthe response times and the organization of the rescue machine in the event of a major accident in a local chemical company, with the consequent release of toxic substances. After the first It-Alert test that involved the entire Lombardy region, this system will be tested for the first time locally in the Bergamo area.

And it will be done as part of the update of the External Emergency Plan (EEP) of theChemical company «Rainoldi spa» of Levate. It is one of the three chemical companies at risk of a major accident in the territory of the town in the middle plain. All the people of Levate and the citizens who, in midday on Wednesday 3 July, will be within a radius of three kilometers from the “Rainoldi spa” (via San Carlo Borromeo), will receive the following message on their cell phone: “Civil Protection alert exercise 03/07/24 12:00 p.m. accident in the industrial plantl e Rainoldi spa with the presence of dangerous substances, in the Municipality of Levate. Find shelter indoors and do not approach the plant. Stay updated and follow the instructions of the Authorities”. It is estimated that, in addition to Levate, the Municipalities of Comun Nuovo, Dalmine, Osio Sotto, Osio Sopra, Stezzano, Verdello and Verdellino will be involved.

None of those who receive the message will actually be asked to take shelter in a closed place, but it is important that the message itself is taken into due consideration so that in the event of a real emergency, one knows how to behave accordingly. An alarm through special sirens will also be launched by the town hall. Mayor Paola Agazzi will activate it from her office. The latter will then be responsible for leaving the town hall, within the perimeter of incidence of the possible accident, and going to the town school: here it will still be up to her to activate the Municipal Coordination Center (Coc) with all its components. For its part, the Prefecture will test the activation of the Advanced Coordination Post (Pca), the dispatch of police patrols to the site of the accident to set up roadblocks, the virtual arrival of emergency medical and technical rescue vehicles, i.e. firefighters, Arpa, Ats and 118. The Rescue Coordination Center will also be virtually summoned, present with the press spokesperson and the Civil Protection Office. In the territories involved in the exercise, there will be Civil Protection volunteers as “sentinels” who will be able to submit passers-by to a questionnaire. The data from the exercise will be the subject of a “hot” debriefing at the end of the activity.
