LECCE – The 115 telephone lines taken by storm: on this Sunday with temperatures above 30 degrees, there are countless interventions carried out by the firefighters throughout Salento, due to the numerous fires that broke out during the day. The teams of the provincial command and those of the various provincial detachments are in fact busy in the most disparate places of the Tacco, to deal with the fires.
The fire mainly affected brushwood, green areas and even a car. Alliste, Racale, Nardò, but also their marinas as well as the Adriatic coast. From the morning onwards, firefighters had and are still facing the threat of flames, driven by the wind and also fueled by the first scorching temperatures. The various places, often inaccessible, were also reached by civil protection volunteers and the staff of Arif, the regional agency for irrigation and forestry activities.
The phenomenon, which is increasingly growing according to the numbers and evidence of scientists, is inflating fears in view of the coming weeks, in which the heat will increase dramatically. Just on Friday afternoon, a disastrous fire broke out on the hill of Lido Conchiglie, forcing the 115 to intervene even with two Canadairs departing from Lamezia Terme to tame the flames. The invitation is to pay maximum attention and contribute, collectively, to the prevention of fires for the benefit of the ecosystem and human health.
