The third and final stage of the Coppa Italia Lead circuit took place this weekend at the Adel Climbing Wall in Campitello di Fassa.
In qualifying Giovanni Placci (Orobia ASD) and Giorgio Tomatis (Centro Sportivo Impero) lead the ranking with 2 tops, followed by Davide Picco (El Maneton Schio), Andrea Ludovico Chelleris (Teste di Pietra PN) and Ernesto Placci (Carchidio-Strocchi Faenza ).
The semi-finals reserve some surprises: Davide Picco takes the lead of the group with 38+, followed by Davide Marco Colombo (Fiamme Oro) with 36+ and Riccardo Vicentini (Lupi Climbing Team) with 34+. Great exception was Giovanni Placci, who lost his grip on the 24+ movement and thus ended his race in 12th place, outside the top 10 of the finalists.
Another positive surprise was Luca Bertacco (King Rock Climbing Team) who placed himself in 5th place with 30+ and earned the final.
In the final, Giorgio Tomatis wins gold, the only one to reach the top, silver for Davide Marco Colombo who reaches hold 44, bronze for Luca Boldrini (Deva Wall) with the same number of holds, as well as Luca Bertacco who takes 4th place and Giorgio Bendazzoli (El Maneton Schio) who placed 5th.
At the end of the race Tomatis commented on his medal as follows: “After a somewhat complicated start to the season I managed to find the flow again, finally, and I’m happy. I needed a victory like this to get back into race mode a bit, after the first Olympic qualifications, where I wasn’t able to give my best. Now let’s keep going until the next OQS and then we’ll see what the future holds for me.”

In the women’s team, Ilaria Maria Scolaris (SASP Torino) has held the reins of command since qualifying, with a top and a 44+, followed by Claudia Ghisolfi (Fiamme Oro) and Federica Papetti (Rock Brescia ASD).
In the semi-final Ilaria Maria Scolaris confirms her dominance, being the only one to reach the top. Claudia Ghisolfi follows with 39+ and Federica Papetti takes third place, reaching hold 37.
In the final Scolaris sealed the victory with a top. Silver for Claudia Ghisolfi, who also reached the top, but with an inferior result in the semi-final, bronze for Federica Papetti, who reached the 45+ movement like Federica Mabboni (Crazy Center) and Valentina Arnoldi (Ragni Lecco), in 4th and 5th position.

Ilaria Maria Scolaris does not limit herself to gold in the stage: she also wins the overall Italian Lead Cup with a wide gap, followed by Federica Mabboni and Valentina Arnoldi.
“I’m very happy, it’s the first overall Italian Cup victory, it was a dream that had been in the back burner for a long time.” declared Scolaris at the end of the match. “Yesterday the routes were very beautiful, with the weather it was difficult to climb really well, but the routes were fun, today with the sun it was even more pleasant. I’m happy to have climbed as best I could.”

Giovanni Placci, who surprisingly was left out of the final of this third stage, still manages to win the circuit title, thanks to the excellent performances of the 2 previous races, followed by Riccardo Vicentini and Matteo Reusa (ASD Kuota 8.10).

The Italian Lead Youth Circuit Cup was won by Elena Brunetti (Climbing Side Roma), followed by Bettina Dorfmann (AVS Brixen) and Matilda Liù Moar (AVS Brixen), while in the men’s sector Riccardo Vicentini took home the general trophy, followed by Fritz Engele (AVS Meran) and Matteo Reusa.
Before the awards ceremony, FASI vice-president Ernesto Scarperi wanted to thank Fassa Climbing: “It is always a pleasure to be here in Val di Fassa, in a now “historic” structure. We are experiencing a very intense season: next weekend the Italian U20 Youth Championship will be held between Bressanone and Brunico and the following weekend the U14 Championship in San Martino di Castrozza. And then there’s the next Olympic qualifying race, fingers crossed for our athletes. The movement is growing, we are working intensely to finish the Olympic training center in Arco di Trento, which will certainly represent a great point of reference for our athletes in view of international competitions.”

The next international events with the difficulty specialty are the first stage of the Lead European Cup in Augsburg, Germany, on 21-22 June, and the second round of the Lead World Cup in Innsbruck, Austria, on 24-25 June.
While at a national level there is great anticipation for the Italian Lead Championship, which will be held on 6-7 July in Curno (BG).
