The Slovenian champion Tadej Pogacar won the 2024 Giro d’Italia. The UAE Team Emirates rider thus achieved his first success in the ‘Corsa Rosa’, at the finish line in Rome. The 21st and final stage in Rome went to the Belgian Tim Merlier. The Belgian from Soudal Quick-Step preceded Jonathan Milan and the Australian Kaden Groves in the sprint.

Second place in the general classification for the Colombian Daniel Martinez (Bora Hansgrohe) and third for Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). The best Italian is Antonio Tiberi of Baharin Victorius who finished in fifth place and also won the white jersey reserved for the best young rider. Lidl-Treck sprinter Jonathan Milan was awarded the Ciclamino jersey, the one for the points classification, while Pogacar, in addition to the Pink jersey, also won the Blue jersey for best climber.

Pogacar’s words

“I will carry with me forever great memories of the Giro and of this day in Rome. The Pink Jersey is truly special, and wearing it for 20 days was a unique experience. Today with the team we controlled everything perfectly, avoiding risks, which is a shame that Molano (UAE’s sprint specialist, ed.) didn’t have his best day. I’m happy for everyone who supported me from day one,” said Pogacar.
