Red flag at the start of the Monaco Grand Prix due to an accident involving the two Haas cars of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg and the Red Bull of Sergio Perez

Un terrible accident on the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix stopped the race with an inevitable red flag on the track. Kevin Magnussen’s Haas provoked it by touching Mexican Sergio Perez’s Red Bull from behind, attempting an overtaking at the start of the Rivage. The collision brought Perez violently into the wall and subsequently into another car, the Haas of Nico Hülkenberg, a spectator who was not responsible for the crash. All three drivers fortunately escaped the accident unscathed, while the debris on the track and the skeleton of Sergio Perez’s destroyed Red Bull were impressive. The accident was subsequently classified by the race direction as racing accident and it was not deemed appropriate to continue with further investigations, a motivation most likely due to the fact that, during the first lap, the stewards tend not to sanction the majority of contacts between drivers. Magnussen, in front of the Sky Sport cameras, shifted the blame for the accident onto Perez, justifying himself as follows: “I didn’t emerge from nowhere, I was there and I expected him to give me some space”. Here is the video of the sensational accident.
