Bolotana, Golden Lion for Terracuza organic extra virgin olive oil from the Nieddu company

Great satisfaction for the olive grower Giacomo Nieddu: «An important recognition that repays us for the difficulties we face every day in our work».

BOLOTANA | May 24, 2024. Important recognition for the Bolotana olive grower Giacomo Niedduwhich he obtained with his oil Terracuza The Golden Lion International in the Organic category. The prize was awarded a few days ago during the awards ceremony in Toscolano Maderno (Brescia). The competition has been organized by Olive & Italy since 2017 and represents a real “Oscar” of extra virgin olive oil.

Terracuza is an extra virgin olive oil obtained from two native cultivars of Sardinia, specifically from the Marghine mountain range characterized by terraced hills, the “Bosana” and the “Cariasina”, processed with an innovative pressing technique based on ultrasound technology, to speed up extraction times.

«This is a reward for the hard work that is done in the company every day and which allows us to have high quality products – underlines Nieddu –. It is an important recognition that repays us for the difficulties we face every day in our work in a difficult area because it is hilly and unfavorable. Ours can be defined as Heroic olive growing as the processing methods in the field are carried out manually. This is also why we have to face higher production costs, but we are not stopping in our project to safeguard the terraced olive groves, a heritage of our territory also recognized by UNESCO.”

Satisfaction was also expressed by the president Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra Leonardo Salis. «We are extremely proud of the victory of this prestigious award by an important company in our territory which manages to represent excellence for the Sardinian olive sector. This recognition – highlights Salis – rewards the company’s dedication and commitment to safeguarding the local olive sector in territories that are not easy for these crops. The award enhances the richness of local cultivars and strengthens the identity and quality of our products.”

For the Director of Coldiretti Nuoro-Ogliastra, Alessandro Serrathe award also testifies «the close connection between the company and the territory of Bolotana as well as the virtuous collaboration that has been created with the local oil millers, the synergy between the different components of production allows in fact to obtain an oil of the highest quality, an expression authentic of our territory”.

The company led by Giacomo, who follows the work started by his father Giovanni, has always aimed at protecting the biodiversity of the area. Family-run, the Bolotana olive growing company specializes in the recovery and putting abandoned plants and olive groves back into production. The transformation of the raw material takes place within 12 hours and is entrusted to master millers such as Luca Carrone of the Olivicoltori Valle del Cedrino cooperative.
