All hope was almost lost. The times for unlocking the car incentives 2024 they lasted beyond initial expectations, but now the long-awaited green light has arrived. It will finally be possible to purchase low or zero emission cars at very competitive prices. The issue has been dragging on for months, not without angering trade bodies, including ACEA, the association of European manufacturers in Italy, and Stellantis.

The group born from the merger between FCA and PSA Groupe has launched several digs at the current government in recent months, guilty of not supporting the ecological transition enough. According to the CEO and number one of Lingotto, Olivier François, the lack of contributions would have clipped the wings of the 500e, incapable of living up to sales expectations, to the point of resulting in the stop of the Mirafiori factory.

On the other hand, the package of measures now allocated will be quite generous, equal to almost one billion euros, 950 million to be precise. The executive provides for contributions of up to 13,750 euros each in the case of the purchase of electric vehicles, as well as interesting news relating to hybrid and used vehicles.

The conditions of access

The Ecobonuses were established by the previous executive, under the direction of Mario Draghi. Which, through Dpcm (Decree of the President of the Council of Ministers) wished to give impetus to green mobility. The results obtained, however, left enough to be desired, especially with regard to full electric vehicles, and it is precisely the funds left unused that allow the highest amount of the entire three-year period to be disbursed.

The ones entitled to it are above all the lower-middle class of the population, having un ISEE income less than 30,000 euros. For the first time, scrapping a Euro 5 car entitles you to a contribution. Meanwhile, a bonus of 2,000 euros has been introduced relating to the purchase of second-hand Euro 6 cars with emissions of up to 160 g/km of carbon dioxide. And, in response to demand from sector operators, 50 million euros are allocated to an experimental long-term rental program for full electric vehicles.

The sums allocated

The aid varies based on the type of vehicle, CO2 emissions and the applicant’s income. The big chunk is reserved for BEV, with a maximum of 13,750 euros with scrapping of a Euro 0-2 example and ISEE less than 30,000 euros. The figure drops to 10,000 euros in the case of plug-in hybrids it’s at 3,000 euros for petrol and diesel.

The full sum is only recognized upon scrapping a vehicle between Euro 0 and Euro 2. Not even those who intend to buy an electric motorbike will be left empty-handed, being able to obtain up to 3,000 euros. Depending on the type of vehicle, fuel and mass, the “discount” dedicated to commercial vehicles ranges from a minimum limit of 1,000 euros to a maximum of 18,000 euros. To obtain the incentive, it is necessary to submit an application to the Revenue Agency electronically directly or through the dealership.
